AI Arms Race with Morgan & Morgan!
Opening Message
At McKenzie PLLC, we are constantly evaluating new ways to deliver better outcomes, greater consistency, and more efficient representation for our clients.
One of the most significant developments we are seeing across the legal industry is the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence. While much of the public discussion focuses on whether AI will replace lawyers, we believe the more important question is this:
How can AI help great lawyers serve clients more effectively?
The New Competitive Advantage
Members of Morgan & Morgan's leadership team recently invited me to lunch to compare notes after repeatedly encountering them in significant litigation across multiple states. Both of our firms have been growing quickly and we were mutually interested in how systems were being deployed to not only manage back-office things but to streamline and improve workflows.
During our guarded discussion, one theme emerged clearly:
The future advantage in litigation will belong to firms that can learn the fastest.
For decades, legal expertise largely resided within individual attorneys. Valuable insights from prior cases, motions, depositions, and claim evaluations often remained siloed within a lawyer's personal experience.
Today's technology is changing that.
The most forward-thinking firms and companies are investing in systems that capture institutional knowledge and make it available across the entire organization.
What This Means for Our Clients
At McKenzie PLLC, we have been building a proprietary knowledge-management and AI platform designed to help us deliver more consistent, informed, and efficient representation.
This investment allows us to:
- Maintain rigorous task management and quality-control systems so matters continue moving toward resolution and trial readiness without unnecessary delays.
- Identify patterns and lessons learned from prior matters that may be relevant to current claims and litigation.
- Organize reports, emails, briefs, research, and work product into a searchable knowledge repository that allows our team to access information more quickly.
- Reduce administrative burdens on attorneys so they can spend more time exercising judgment, advising clients, and solving problems.
The goal is not simply to work faster.
The goal is to make sure that valuable knowledge gained from one matter can benefit the next matter.
In practical terms, that means our clients receive the benefit of a continuously improving organization rather than relying solely on the experience of any one attorney.
Building for the Future
Many firms are permitting attorneys to use AI tools individually.
We (like Morgan and Morgan) are focused on something broader: creating systems that allow our firm's collective experience to become organized, searchable, and reusable through a bespoke AI system that has been created exclusively for my firm.
As litigation becomes increasingly complex, we believe the firms that effectively combine institutional knowledge with experienced legal judgment will be positioned to deliver the greatest value to their clients.
In Closing
Artificial intelligence will not replace sound legal judgment.
Relationships still matter. Strategic thinking still matters. Trial skills still matter.
But we believe technology can help experienced lawyers provide more consistent service, identify opportunities more quickly, and leverage lessons learned across hundreds of matters.
Our commitment is simple: to continue investing in the people, systems, and processes that allow us to provide the highest level of service possible to our clients and partners.
Thank you for the trust you place in our team. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve you.
